Last night I took a stroll through many of Lahaina’s galleries. I was really impressed with the quality craftsmanship of the artists and the friendly gallery employees. Hawaii has become a diverse melting pot of many cultures which is reflected in Maui’s art scene.
This trip, I chose to leave my little homemade pochade box at home and relax. But, I couldn’t stay away from art! Even when I am not painting, I am always adding to my storehouse of inspiration. Maui is filled with inspiring music, vistas, vignettes and talented artists. Art enthusiasts can find a wide range of subjects in all mediums from landscapes, still life, surrealism, sculpture, abstracts, impressionism to Hawaiian in subject matter.
I want to share a few of my favorite, new-found artists I discovered here on Maui.
“Island Sisters” by Darrell Hill / Still life, by Dario Campanili (a past student of David Leffel)
A Choice Afternoon” by Pegge Hopper (the charming paintings of Hawaiian women adorned our hotel lobby…I really love her acrylics, very large w/simple shapes. Gauguin-like)
“Evening Divine” by Brent Cotton
Untitled, by Suzy Papanilolas (Suzy paints beautiful portraits of traditional Hawaiian people, prints of her paintings were in my hotel room)
“Jarin V” by Angeles Cereceda (faniciful garden scenes)
Kim MacDonald ( Kim paints Hawaiian culture inspired by Gauguin)
“Metaphorical Voyage” by Vladimir Kush (Russian born imaginative surrealistic painter, his work was wild & out-of-this-world, worth the mention!)
Ronald Macedo (traditional landscape & plein air painter)
Maui’s galleries and magazines are filled with many more artists whose works are truly beautiful. I hope you enjoyed my little gallery tour today!
I really enjoyed looking at your pics!
When we were in Maui, we ended up strolling into every gallery we saw along Front Street in Lahaina… we couldn’t resist checking them out – the artwork was beautiful!
Hello Sheraly…thanks for looking at my Maui post. Lahaina has some great galleries, glad to take you back there for a minute!
