Although Sun Valley, Idaho originated as the first American ski resort over 70 years ago, a nationally recognized arts scene has emerged during the past 30 years. For such a small town, Sun Valley is culturally rich with a big art attitude that rivals many large cities!

Year round, Sun Valley welcomes thousands of visitors and locals alike to view rotating exhibitions of painting, photography, glass, sculpture, video and installation art.
Recently, I was asked by Plum TV to host the summer kickoff to the much anticipated Sun Valley Gallery Walks. We began filming nestled below the famous ski slopes of Bald Mountain to showcase the 8 vibrant galleries of the year round destination resort town, Sun Valley, Idaho.
Check out this video for Plum TV by the talented Tyler Hendricks, for a quick gallery tour…

As you can see in the video, the rainy evening didn’t seem dampen the spirits of the many art enthusiasts who crowded the galleries to enjoy a wide variety of fine art while sampling wine and meeting many of the talented artists in attendance.
Here are some more ways to enjoy the arts while in Sun Valley:

  • Sun Valley is also famous for it: 3 day Sun Valley Arts & Crafts Festival where 130 talented artisans display their works.
  • The Sun Valley Symphony celebrates the majesty of its Alpine setting with the beauty of outstanding free classical music performances by world renowned performers.
  • The Sun Valley Writers’ Conference bring important literary figures writer and deserning in a mountain environment to consider ideas set forth in fiction, nonfiction, journalism, poetry and filmmaking.
  • The Ketchum Arts Festival features is a popular arts and crafts festival which attracts artisans from all over Idaho.

The local colloquialism, “Sun Valley, where the winters bring you and the summers keep you,” is proven by the many fun summer things to do and the popular Gallery Walks are at the top of the list.
