Heading Out West
This was fun to paint! 🦊 It's always a wonderful feeling when a painting seems to paint itself.

I made a little Instagram Reel (see below) to show a bit of the fun I had while painting, On the Prowl. This painting will be heading up with me to Great Falls, Montana for the Out West Art Show & Sale. 🤠
I'll be with Dana Gallery. Come see my new paintings this weekend August 18-21, 2021.
Hope to see some of you there!
Here's my newest little painting, "Springtime Greens"...

Springtime Plein Air Painting Speed Demo with Lori McNee
Here's a little springtime plein air painting speed demo!
After working indoors in my studio for most of the long winter, I was excited to get outside for some plein air painting. But, springtime in the Idaho Rocky Mountains can be blustery and difficult for plein air painting. Nevertheless, I went out and did my best amidst high winds and chilly temperatures.
I hope you enjoy a quick visit in my studio and out in the field for some plein air landscape painting. As usual, I painted with my Cobra water mixable oils which really help keep things easier. In the 2 minute video demo below you can see my process.
I hope you enjoy the first of my new video series, "Lately from Lori."
Cheers,
The Symbolism of New Beginnings and My Peacock Painting
At first glance, my latest painting depicts a beautiful peacock and some impressionistic lotus flowers.
Upon further examination the view will realize the painting has been executed in an etherial, almost magical manner. Oftentimes my paintings have a deeper meaning...

For instance, the peacock is a symbol of beauty and has great importance in many cultures. It represents the rays of the sun and the beginning of the new day, thus symbolizing new beginnings and eternal life.
The lotus flower also holds great symbolic weight among many cultures. This delicate flower rises out of the muck and mire and reminds us we can rise above our challenges and circumstances. It represents awakening, potential, self-regeneration and rebirth.
For me, this was the perfect painting subject to start off 2021! It will be the invitation piece for my upcoming March exhibition at Kneeland Gallery in Sun Valley, Idaho.
Below is a quick Instagram Reels which shows some up-close views of me creating, "New Beginnings!" I painted this with my Cobra solvent-free oils by Royal Talens with Princeton Brushes.
I wish you much success and positivity in the new year ahead!

Happy Little Accidents
In art and in life, we hopefully learn from our happy little accidents.
Have you ever finished a painting and then accidentally dropped it and damaged it? This recently happened to me. A while back, I was putting the finishing touches on a new little 6x6 oil painting, Evening Sky.

Luckily, this 'happy little accident' actually ended up helping the painting! The finished painting had flopped off my easel and into piles of cadmium red and yellow. I did my best to wipe and scrape off the unwanted paint, but I was unable to remove it all. To my surprise, the invasive cadmiums actually warmed up the sky and made the painting even better! A happy little accident for sure!
You can watch how I fixed the painting in this Instagram video.

From Farm Boy to Painter My Interview with Artist Robert Moore
One of the greatest joys of my 'job' is working with wonderful artists from all over the world. Recently, I interviewed my longtime artist friend, Robert Moore on my new show, "Art Beat with Lori McNee." (produced by Eye on Sun Valley.)
We met at Kneeland Gallery to view Robert's newest oil painting exhibition in Sun Valley, Idaho. During this inspiring interview, Robert explained how he went from being an Idaho farm boy to a renowned landscape painter.
Robert is a talented, yet humble man. With the support of his wife, Robert has built a successful art career, reared 6 amazing children, and apprenticed many successful artists along the way. Through adversity, including being colorblind, Robert has created a distinctive painting style of his own. His paintings are in top art galleries and important art collections around the world. Robert is also a popular workshop instructor. In fact, I painted my very first still life painting when I attended a Robert Moore workshop over 20 years ago!
I hope you enjoy learning a bit more about the man behind the bold, beautiful aspen paintings for which he is known.
Easy Tips for Creating An Instagram Story
Instagram Stories are easy and fun to make! In fact, I look at them as another creative expression.
Nowadays most creative entrepreneurs have an Instagram account to showcase their product or services.
But quite often, I get asked how and why I make my Instagram Stories.
After only 24 hours, the Stories disappear! So what's the point?
At first glance and Instagram Story may seem kind of frivolous.
But large brands and small are using the power of Instagram Stories to successfully promote their online brands and products.
An Instagram Story can trick the algorithms and help drive traffic back to your own timeline posts. They are a great way to further your brand recognition, mission and a way to promote and sell yourself or your products.
This video will explain the value of Stories and easy tips to create one.
