From Farm Boy to Painter My Interview with Artist Robert Moore

One of the greatest joys of my 'job' is working with wonderful artists from all over the world. Recently, I interviewed my longtime artist friend, Robert Moore on my new show, "Art Beat with Lori McNee." (produced by Eye on Sun Valley.)

We met at Kneeland Gallery to view Robert's newest oil painting exhibition in Sun Valley, Idaho. During this inspiring interview, Robert explained how he went from being an Idaho farm boy to a renowned landscape painter.
Robert is a talented, yet humble man. With the support of his wife, Robert has built a successful art career, reared 6 amazing children, and apprenticed many successful artists along the way. Through adversity, including being colorblind, Robert has created a distinctive painting style of his own. His paintings are in top art galleries and important art collections around the world. Robert is also a popular workshop instructor. In fact, I painted my very first still life painting when I attended a Robert Moore workshop over 20 years ago!
I hope you enjoy learning a bit more about the man behind the bold, beautiful aspen paintings for which he is known.

Easy Tips for Creating An Instagram Story

Easy Tips for Creating An Instagram Story

Instagram Stories are easy and fun to make! In fact, I look at them as another creative expression.

Nowadays most creative entrepreneurs have an Instagram account to showcase their product or services.

But quite often, I get asked how and why I make my Instagram Stories.

After only 24 hours, the Stories disappear! So what's the point?

At first glance and Instagram Story may seem kind of frivolous.

But large brands and small are using the power of Instagram Stories to successfully promote their online brands and products.

An Instagram Story can trick the algorithms and help drive traffic back to your own timeline posts. They are a great way to further your brand recognition, mission and a way to promote and sell yourself or your products.

This video will explain the value of Stories and easy tips to create one.

Plein Air Painting Along the Big Wood River in Idaho

Recently, I spent a beautiful, summer day of plein air painting along the world famous Big Wood River in Sun Valley, Idaho.

Big Wood River ©2019 Lori McNee 9x12 oil on linen

Scroll down below for a quick little Instagram video of my plein air painting set-up. Plein air painting is a term for painting outside in the fresh air. When painting outside, the artist must work quickly because the light and weather changes quickly. I like to keep my supplies down to a minimum. It's important for me to use a lightweight, yet stable pochade box which is a portable easel.
I have quite a few different pochade box easels. But for this day, I chose my handy and hardy Strada Easel. This easel is a favorite and was the perfect choice for quickly setting up and painting along the Big Wood River. You can read my review here > On The Go With Strada Easel
To make my outdoor painting life even more simple, I always paint with Cobra solvent-free oils, water mixable paints! On this day, I even used the water directly from the Big Wood River! I like to infuse my plein air paintings with the local water.
People often ask me what supplies I use. So here's the answer! This little painting was painted on Fredrix linen with the Aspen brushes I helped develop with Princeton Brush Company!
I hope you enjoy seeing my beautiful Idaho plein air painting day...

An Easy DIY Artist's Workstation

This spring, I have been moving into and organizing my newly remodeled art studio. My easy DIY artist's workstation is one of the best parts of my new studio.

This heirloom quality easel is the crowning jewel of my art studio, and now I can paint even larger paintings!

However, I am almost as thrilled with my "Lori McNee Artist's Workstation" which consists of an AV medical cart that holds my affordable Apple Macbook Air laptop and an inexpensive TV monitor. Now, I am able to project my reference material right next to my easel!

Below you can see my painting, "Afternoon Alpenglow" in progress with the Lori McNee Artist's Workstation to the right. How handy to have my reference material right next to my painting and taboret! I also share the products I used to create this painting below.

Be sure and scroll down for all helpful the Amazon links! I tried to find the best deals for you...

I posted my Lori McNee Artist's Workstation on Instagram a while ago (see the post IG below) and many of you asked for more information. So, I've gathered up the items here in this blog post and included the Amazon links. I hope my DIY artist's workstation inspires you too!

This is a great way to stay organized and efficient, whether your studio is large or small.

Here are the items you will need to make your own artist's workstation! *Note: Because I use an Apple laptop, I did not use the PC mount on the medical cart.

Don't get too large a monitor or the AV cart will become top heavy!

Try my favorite oil paints by Cobra! They are solvent-free and water-mixable.

Also, my favorite brushes which I helped develop by Princeton! The Aspen series.

And that's it!

I truly believe the DYI Lori McNee Artist's Workstation will help you simplify your precious painting time and will inspire your art to the next level! Let me know what you think. ~Lori
