In this informative video demonstration, artist Pierre Giroux demonstrates how-to enhance your underpainting by using glazing and cold wax medium techniques.
Glazing and cold wax medium adds texture and visual depth to oil paintings. I have been exploring the use of cold wax medium and love it! I hope you enjoy this video…

Hi Lori!
I enjoyed watching Pierre demonstrate different techniques using wax and glazes. It’s inspiring! I’m wondering if you can use the cold wax with the water soluble oils? Also, do you have to use the wax over the glazes? I’ve been using walnut oil for a medium and it leaves a nice gloss once dry. It also can be used to make fun drips and washes, and best of all, it’s non toxic. I like the idea of the cold wax for texture and depth it would create being able to see underneath it! I also really like the fact you don’t have to heat it as you do with encaustics. Thanks for sharing this Lori…I’m going to watch your videos now:)
I liked the method of using cold wax. Amazing!! I must try!
I encourage you to give cold wax a try. You will love its texture. Have fun.
