Giving back to the community with the gift of art is a great way to benefit others as well as yourself. My good friend, abstract artist Matt LeBlanc, has shared some great articles with us in the past.

However, this post is different and very inspiring. On his own, Matt has created a successful art campaign to raise money for a charity he believes in, the fight against cancer…
Matt lost his sister to this heartless disease when she was only five. Sadly, Matt never got the chance to meet Madeleine, but years later, Matt is doing something to fight back. Matt calls this battle > “The Matt LeBlanc Art for Life Campaign.”
By guest artist/author: Matt LeBlanc
The whole idea behind this campaign is to achieve a difficult task in a specific amount of time. The difficulty of the task itself has been generating enough interest because it’s not something you see every day. People are amazed by this project because of its difficulty.
The campaign can be summed up in one sentence > I’ve committed myself to create 200 paintings in a 6‐month period.

  • That equals an average of 1.1 painting a day for 184 days.
  • Each painting is being sold and all profits are donated to the Atlantic Canada Cancer Research Center in Moncton New Brunswick Canada.
  • My goal is to raise over $25,000 with this campaign.
  • With less than a week left in my project, I have completed all and sold all 200 pieces, raising $25,665 so far and going for more at my gala on September 24. I want to blow 30k out of the water now!
  • I’m very happy with the attention it’s been getting. I’m having a big gala on September 24 to showcase all the pieces so I almost don’t have to choice to get all of them done. What a fun project!

Logistics: All paintings created will be available to purchase right away from my website. However, all the 200 paintings will only be released to the public at the Art for Life gala on September 24,2010 (the day after I complete my campaign).
Timing:
From and including: Wednesday, March 24, 2010 to, but not including: Friday, September
24, 2010. That’s 184 days from the start date to the end date or 6 months.
Objective: 200 paintings completed within the 6 months period.
Size: All the paintings are 2 feet wide x 2 feet tall (24″ x24″) and painted on professional gallery
style canvas (1 ½” thick).
Artwork value: Each painting will be selling for $150 where $125 going directly to the fight against cancer.
Campaign Goal: The goal is to raise $25,000 (net profit after all cost)
Giving the gift of art to someone who is in need is very special. I’m always being asked to give art to charitable events. I rarely say no because the world needs so much help. As artists, have a true gift. We have the gift to create. To create something from raw material that someone will actually love and cherish for as long as they live. That might friends, is very special. A lot of people would do anything to have our artistic gift. Receiving a gift is one thing. Giving a gift is another. We usually get great satisfaction in receiving a gift but the same goes when you give one.
