The other day I spoke about the benefits of and how to use social media, including Twitter, Facebook and YouTube for the artist. I addressed over 200 people attending the Western States Arts Federation ZAPP Conference which was help in St. Louis, Missouri. Because of modern conveniences, I was able to address this crowd from the comfort of my own home via Skype!
I recorded this 9 minute interview and thought it might be of interest to my readers – especially those of you who are still trying decide if the social media bandwagon is right for you!
PS. It was my first time recording on Skype (and kind of an experiment)…something went a bit wrong and the video recording only shows me and not my interviewer – but you can hear his voice. It was strange speaking to a crowd of people I couldn’t even see…oh, the highs and lows of technology!
Anyway, I think you all might enjoy seeing this anyway.
Here’s a bit about WESTAF & ZAPP:
WESTAF, the Western States Arts Federation, is a nonprofit arts service organization dedicated to the creative advancement and preservation of the arts. Based in Denver, Colorado, WESTAF fulfills its mission to strengthen the financial, organizational and policy infrastructure of the arts by providing innovative programs and services to artists and arts organizations in the West and nationwide. WESTAF is supported by the National Endowment for the Arts
ZAPP™ is an online application that enables individual artists to apply online to multiple art shows through one central website. The online application process also allows artists to directly upload digital images of their artwork for jury review. The result is that all artwork in the system is in a consistent, high-quality, digital format. The digital images are presented to the jurors of each show and the system allows them to score online.
I enjoyed visiting with Len Edgerly, a past chair of the Western States Arts Federation (WESTAF) who conducted the interview. Besides WESTAF, Len’s main project these days is The Kindle Chronicles.
Thanks for asking me to chat about my love of art & social media! ~Lori 🙂
Also, dear readers…please let me know what you think of future Skype interviews. I’d like to start interviewing interesting guests this way – but, you will see both of us next time!
