Here is my simple secret to painting raw canvas edges. This quick tip will work for both oil and acrylic painters.

Allow me to explain…

Over the past few years my paintings have become more contemporary and so has the framing. Instead of traditional framing, I have been opting for floater frames on my larger stretched canvases and panels. Once my oil painting is complete, I like to clean up the messy raw canvas edges to create a professional presentation.

Painting the raw canvas edges with oil is too messy and time consuming and acrylic paint is expensive and takes multiple coats. Here my secret = acrylic black gesso! 🖤

The black gesso glides on easily with an old acrylic or chip brush and covers great!  As you will see in my video below, the black canvas edges in my hand-painted floater frames really set off my paintings. I shared this tip on Instagram and it was well received, so I thought my readers might enjoy it as well.

Watch how easy it is in my Instagram Reel below!
